TIP OF THE DAY NO. 3: DOCUMENTING PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO YOUR CAR AFTER A CAR ACCIDENT

The importance of documenting physical damage to your car after a car accident cannot be understated. Many car wrecks involve what insurance companies call “minor impacts”. Many auto accidents that insurers call minor impacts result in serious injuries to our clients. In particular, many people involved in what are called minor impacts suffer severe injuries to their neck and back as a result of the unexpected impact by the at-fault driver’s vehicle. So, what can you do to fight against the insurance company’s allegation that this was a minor impact that we would not expect to cause serious injuries?

The first and most obvious way to overcome the insurance company’s defense asserting that the impact was not severe enough to cause the injuries you have suffered in a car wreck is to take pictures of the damage to your vehicle in order to contradict these assertions. After most wrecks that the insurance company calls minor impact, the exterior body of the vehicle, particularly the bumper, does not show a great deal of damage. However, many vehicles involved in what insurers call minor impact car accidents show a lot of damage to the structural integrity of the car. We begin to see the actual damage to the vehicle once the bumper, for example, is removed. It is important that you document this actual damage to the vehicle, and your cell phone is an easy way for you to do that.
